The IT Department (yours truly) is super busy right now working on a number of exciting projects, one being a new magazine style website entitled FJ One Magazine.
FJ One Magazine
FJ One Magazine is a project to actively promote independent owner operated resorts and accommodations, and individuals creating Fiji related online content – such as writers, photographers and bloggers.
Almost all the resorts on and around Taveuni fall into the owner/operator bracket, and many are personal friends and acquaintances. The initial focus for the magazine is pretty close to home, although by no means limited to this part of Fiji. For travelers and potential visitors to Fiji the magazine will feature the latest travel news, deals and special offers from the featured resorts.
By working with local resorts the goal is to publicise the current offers and deals, and encourage travelers to get the best rates by booking direct with the resorts. Resorts pay away significant commissions on bookings routed through online travel agents (OTA’s). Swinging the balance more in favor of direct bookings contributes in a big way to the bottom line, particularly for the smaller boutique type resorts.
From the traveler perspective, booking direct should always result in a better deal and a more personal service from the outset – a win/win for both parties.
To broaden the appeal of the magazine other travel and lifestyle topics will be featured: reviews, attractions, culture, arts and crafts, photography, homes, gardens and real estate.
The “One” in FJ One indicates that the proposed content is largely geared towards the smaller individual business owners and content creators spanning these travel and lifestyle topics. All the large brand name resorts and gazillion dollar getaways, particularly those on Viti Levu and the western islands, get plenty of coverage already from Tourism Fiji.
Finding photographers shooting Fiji subject matter (both professional and amateur) is easy enough Bloggers are harder to come by. Most regional blogs are political or news based blogs and of no interest for this particular project.
Where are the Fiji Bloggers ?!?!
If you’re reading this and you are a local blogger or travel writer with local content I’d love to hear from you. Got a holiday write-up or travelog featuring Fiji ? Send me a link and I’ll check it out !
As far as the proposed website is concerned the domain name is registered and a layout is on the whiteboard.
Whilst the website is under construction you can follow FJ One Magazine on Facebook where the new page is already up and running:
Stay tuned for updates – or subscribe, it’s easier !)
That’s all for now – thanks for reading !
